The Columbia Rowing Club and is open to anyone with an interest in rowing, whether as a competitor, a recreational rower or a supporter. No experience is necessary. Our goal is to promote and encourage the sport of rowing in the Midlands of South Carolina. Membership in CRC is governed by the CRC Constitution and the Membership Rules and Guidelines.

Youth Rowing has two primary seasons, Fall and Spring. Open enrollment for each season occurs during the first few weeks of practice, normally in late August or early September for Fall Season and late February or early March for Spring Season. Please check the calendar for the specific dates of open enrollment for the next season.

In addition, Learn to Row sessions and/or camps will be held to introduce area youth to rowing and to allow them to get a head start on the Fall Season. Check the calendar for upcoming camps and/or Learn to Row sessions, or contact the Head Coach for more information.

The first step is to contact the Head Coach.

No child will be denied the opportunity to participate in Youth Rowing due to an inability to pay the fee. Please note in the 'Special Notation for Coach" if you, or your child (if you are a parent completing the form) will need financial assistance. This information will be held in strict confidence.

Each participant must:

  • pass the Columbia Rowing Club swim test,
  • have a parent/guardian sign the CRC release of liability,
  • pay the fees outlined at the start of each rowing season,
  • maintain a "C" average in academic classes,
  • agree to the standards and rules as outlined in the Columbia Rowing Club Youth Handbook regarding behavior, attendance and parent/guardian volunteer participation, and
  • read and return the signed Columbia Rowing Club Youth Contract.

Before you go onto the water, you must pass the swim test (swim 150 meters without stopping (part of which could be on their back) followed immediately by treading water for 10 minutes and followed immediately by the putting on of a PFD in deep water). Come to the scheduled swim test (See Calendar) or contact the Head Coach to schedule a swim test. After the swim test, all participants will view and discuss a USRowing Safety Video about safety in the boathouse, on the dock and in the water.
